Since launching its Mend Our Mountains campaign in March, the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) have raised £53,960 of their target £100k to help urgent repair projects on some of Britain's iconic peaks. With two weeks left until the campaign closes there's still time to pledge your support for the individual campaigns that focus on key areas in eight of the UK's national parks.
With Exmoor virtually on our doorstep we've pledged our support for the Mend Exmoor! campaign, which is hoping to raise enough money to repair Long Chains Combe. Forming part of the Two Moors Way, a long-distance walking route that links the national parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor together, Long Chains Combe has sadly turned into a boggy quagmire and is now impassable by walkers, riders and cyclists who use this ancient trading route through the heart of Exmoor. However, due to its remote location an air drop is the only option to get the 30 tonnes of stone required to repair the area – but this is a costly exercise that needs help from the public if it's to happen.
If you're keen to pledge your support of the Mend Exmoor! campaign then you have until precisely 9:03am on the 9th May to donate to their crowdfunding page in return for some great pledge offers, from an evening with the Exmoor Stargazers (£25) to a day out with a Ranger discovering hidden Exmoor (£250).
